Sweet Potato Falafel

0

I've been trying to make sweet potato falafel for the last year. And I could never seem to get all the ingredients in the house at one time! But this week I finally made it, finally.

Ingredients
2 medium sweet potatoes
2 teaspoons of garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
Juice of half a lime original recipe suggested lemon but you make do with what you got
1 cup of chickpea flour
Olive Oil for the baking sheet
1 cup of bread crumbs
salt & pepper

Steps:
1. Microwave the sweet potatoes (or bake them at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes, but I got lazy) . Wrap them in paper towel and sprinkle with water before placing them in microwave. Microwave them one at a time for 5 to 6 minutes each.

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. unless you baked your sweet potatoes in the oven.

3. Peel and mash your sweet potatoes, garlic powder, coriander, lime juice, and chickpea flower together in a bowl (I used an electric mixer for this step)

4. Roll the mashed up ingredients into balls, then dip them into a bowl full of bread crumbs and roll them around until they are covered.

5. Put parchment paper onto a cookie sheet and drizzle olive oil over it.

6. Put the breaded falafel onto the cookie sheet and bake for about 15 minutes, flipping them over halfway through. They should be golden brown when they are done.

Eat them in a pretty sandwich with mixed greens, tomato, and spicy piri piri mayonaise (below).

I have an addiction.

Wasabi Peas. It's a real problem. I bought this bag Sunday and they are almost gone, it is Wednesday.

Wasabi Peas

According to the article below they are healthy enough to feel good about eating them.. but somehow I think eating four bags of anything in one sitting isn't really a good decision.

Buy them. Or go on living your boring life in blissful ignorance.

DIY Bleached Ombre Jean Shirt

0
So I've had this thrifted jean shirt for a while and I was going to give it away when I moved but somehow it found its way to DC with me. I saw a half bleached shirt in one of my favorite blogs and decided it was a necessary project! Due to NO store in the DC/Virginia area having buckets for sale (absurd), I had to rig up a little trash can and hanger situation but I'd say it worked famously. Also since I already had all of the items, it cost me $0!

Things you need:
Jean shirt (thrifted is the best way to go)
Bleach
Bucket/Trash Can/Bowl/Anything large enough to dunk a shirt in
Hanger

Steps:
1. Mark on your shirt in pencil where you want to bleach it up to.
2. Fill your "bucket" with bleach to the level you want it to dye your shirt.
2. Hang shirt on hanger, and hang hanger on anything (I used string and hung that on a door knob but it turned out the hanger sitting on the trash can was the exact height I needed it so it wasn't really necessary)
3. Let your shirt sit in the bleach for anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes (as long as it doesn't start eating through your fabric this timing doesn't really matter), until you start to see it change colors. Then take the shirt out of bleach but let it sit with bleach on it until it reaches desired color. When I was reading how to do this online it said to get it wet first, and then only bleach for a minute or two and then let it sit out with bleach on it but I wasn't interested in doing so many steps and mine turned out perfect.
4. Rinse and dry in your dryer.
